自1973年以來，在IRPA組織的每一屆國際輻射大會上，已將Sievert獎授予了一位輻射防護界的杰出人物，以表彰其在輻射防護學科的杰出貢獻。該獎項的名稱來自Rolf M. Sievert，曾經是輻射防護領域的領導者和先驅。Sievert先生生前是一位瑞典生物物理學家，現行有效劑量單位的名稱（Sievert）即為紀念他而命名。
